Digital Citizenship: Activity 3 Digital Footprint

Digital Footprint
Is basically everything on the internet that is about you!
Sometimes content about you may be viewed by people you don’t know. Your digital footprint may include photos, audio, videos, blog posts, posts you write on friends’ walls. Like all information on the internet, it can be permanent.
Remember: Internet information has a global audience

Revisit the 4Rs - emphasized in SST

  • R2 - Responsibility
  • R3 - Relationship
  • R4 - Reflection

  12. (a) How do you find this lesson relevant to you in your life?
This is relevant in my life as in the world of modern social media, I am vulnerable to being a victim of cyber abuse or bullying. Like the girl in the video, she has learned how to keep herself safe from Justin, I have also learned how to keep myself safe on social media by changing my privacy settings and being aware of what I reveal about myself online.

    (b) Why are people not aware of the risk they can potentially put themselves in when they share personal information on the internet.
People do not know of these dangers as they are not well informed about these dangers. Some senior citizens might be new to the internet, thus they do not know much about the dangers of the internet yet, as they do not think twice when they post on social media etc.

    (c) What can be done to increase people's awareness of these dangers?

I feel that we should take the initiative to discuss cyber safety with our friends, peers, and family. For example, we can share about the dangers of the internet while eating food with our friends, or by making educational posters and videos that can be shared throughout the world.
